
Anchoring the Charney Investment Group is Investment Officer, Doug Charney. Mr. Charney attended Pennsylvania State University in Harrisburg on an Army ROTC scholarship, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and received the George C. Marshall Award – an award that is only given to the top ROTC graduate from a college – as a distinguished military graduate. After serving in the U.S. Army and retiring with the rank of captain, he began his securities career, completing advanced studies in retirement planning and asset allocation along the way.
A Certified Fund Specialist, Mr. Charney serves as a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association and the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries. He has written articles for more than 50 newspapers and magazines, including SmartMoney, the Harrisburg Patriot-News, Central Pennsylvania Business Journal, Minorities and Women in Business, Bull & Bear Financial Digest, Physician’s Money Digest and CPA Wealth Provider. In addition, he has been quoted in The New York Times, Newsday and the Dow Jones Magazine. He serves on the Pennsylvania State University - Harrisburg Board of Advisors.
Mr. Charney is a Retired U.S. Army Reserve colonel and worked at the Center for Strategic Leadership at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA for 30 years. He is active in community activities, including Angel Flight – a nonprofit organization that provides free transportation to medical treatment facilities for people who cannot afford public transportation or who cannot tolerate it for health reasons. In addition to serving as a volunteer pilot for this organization, Mr. Charney donates the flight expenses for every trip he makes. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, piloting his own plane, bicycling, and scuba diving. Doug resides in Lewisberry, PA with his wife Sheri and children Alyssa and Tyler.
